Yadegar Emam Highway is one of the major north-south crossings in Tehran which came out of stalemate after a period of 17 years. Building the last part of the highway completed the highway network of Tehran. This section, which became operational on Tuesday, was the most difficult part in terms of construction and technical affairs.
According to Tehran SAMA, Maziyar Hosseini, Technical and Development Deputy of Tehran Municipality said: "Yadegar Emam (RA) Highway, between Azadi Avenue and Jay Garrison in a length of about 2 km, has been built in accordance with a new style of two-level highways. This section of the route passes through one of the most compacted population textures of the capital city for which a huge sum of money was needed to release a large number of properties and would thus undermine economic and social justification of the project. To remove the difficulty, building the highway in two levels was studied according to which fast moving vehicles were led to underground section and the surface was entirely devoted to local transportation. The final result, contrary to expectation of most experts, turned to be a novel project with efficient social and environmental approach."
Hosseini added that implementation of this section at the two zero and minus one levels in addition to creating a rapid trans-regional highway, preserves accesses and communications on the two sides of the highway. In fact, development of the route by cutting transversal connection would not impose itself on the local and urban locations. Furthermore, the minus one level which has been implemented as gallery with no roof has saved money with no need to ventilation and lighting.
