The next round of talks between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency will take place on Friday August 24. Reuters reports that the negotiations will take place in Vienna. The earlier rounds of talks in February and June did not yield any concrete results.
The Chinese daily Xinhua reports: "The meeting is aimed at further discussion of a structured approach to resolve outstanding issues relating to Iran's nuclear program."
The IAEA will publish its report following this meeting; therefore, the results of this week's meeting will influence the anticipated report.
The West suspects Iran's nuclear program might be directed at weapons production, allegations that Iran has repeatedly denied.
The world powers have thus imposed widespread sanctions on Iran in response to the lack of progress in the nuclear negotiations.
Iran insists, however, that its program is peaceful and it has a right to exploit nuclear power for peaceful purposes.
