U.S. filmmakers selected for Iran's New Horizon jury

TEHRAN -- The U.S. filmmakers Scott J.T. Frank and Darnell Stephen Summers have been selected for the jury of New Horizon, Iran's international festival for independent filmmakers.

Organized by Iran's Documentary and Experimental Film Center (DEFC) and Iran Cinema Organization, the festival will screen social and political documentaries on the theme of ‘Towards Justice.’

Frank is currently in Iran. He plans to make a documentary about the downing of Iran Air Flight 655 by the American Aegis missile cruiser U.S.S. Vincennes in the Persian Gulf in 1988.

Frank had accompanied Sean stone, the son of U.S. Filmmaker Oliver stone, on a visit to Iran in February 2011, during which Stone converted to Islam.

He was also on the panel of the 1st Tehran international video film festival, which was held in June 2012.

Vietnam veteran and anti-war activist Summers has professional experience as a musician, film director, actor, media editor, composer, cameraman, producer and sound technician.

Filmmakers from 72 countries have submitted 980 movies to the secretariat of the gala.

Over 200 of the submissions are from the U.S., Britain and Spain. Filmmakers from Argentina, Brazil, France, Germany, Bulgaria, Bahrain, Bangladesh, India, Greece, Denmark and Hong Kong have been invited to the event.

The focus of the first edition of the festival is films with the theme of movements against social and political injustice in the world.

Films highlighting the Occupy Wall Street movement, the Islamic Awakening, Islamic resistance against the Zionist regime and the Islamic Revolution of Iran are the festival's first priority.

The first edition of the festival will be held in Tehran from September 2 to 5.
