A fire accident in an elementary school in Piranshahr, Iran's Western Azerbaijan Province, injured 37 students on Wednesday December 5. ISNA reports that 8 of the burn victims have suffered burns of over 40 to 50 percent of their body and are in critical condition.
Local officials reports that the fire was caused when a kerosene heater was being removed from the class due to malfunction.
The local Member of Parliament Rasoul Khezri has called for the resignation of the minister of education and criticized lack of government accountability in such accidents.
