order from amazon

This book is the first in the Culture of Iran Series intended for general public and the first of it’s kind to cover the history of clothing, jewellery and cosmetics in Iran from 3000 BCE to the present time with high quality images. This pictorial history brings together the essentials of current research in all of these subjects in a coherent, easy-to-read format for the interested general public. The texts are complemented by high quality photographs of many of the historic Iranian treasures displayed in major museums around the globe. The social histories of clothing, ornaments and cosmetics, and their impacts as determinants of class, status, religious observance and gender relations are touched on. There are also brief references to the creative techniques of the artists. Major urban settings, court life and historic personalities are the prime focus of this book. A glossary, index and extensive bibliography complement the book in addition to 293 high quality images from original museum objects. The book is published in Canada in October 2012 and is written by Massoume Price in collaboration with Zohreh Waibe.
