Mourning Mothers of Iran held a memorial on Tuesday December 27 for Mostafa Karim Beigi at his burial site. Karim Beigi was a 26 year old young man who was shot and killed by security forces during opposition protests in Tehran in December 2009. He is buried at Imam Zadeh Mehdi Jafar cemetery in the village of Joughin in Shahriar County, Tehran Province.
The family’s formal complaint to authorities to identify the killer or killers of their son has remained unanswered. Instead, Iran’s security forces had threatened the family and placed undue pressure on them in order to force them to replace their son's tombstone because it is engraved with the word “martyr.”
At least 8 people were killed by security forces during the Ashura protests in Tehran on December 27 when the security forces and the Basij militia opened fire on protesters and in some cases ran over them with police cars. The nephew of the opposition leader Mir Hossein Mousavi was among the dead.
