An Iranian teenage girl Marjan Kalhor will take part in first round of 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games.
Iranian national ski team which includes two teenage boys and one girl departed for Austria Monday to take part in 2012 Winter Olympic Youth Games.
The 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games, officially known as the "I Winter Youth Olympic Games" (YOG), will be an international multi-sport event for youth that will take place in Innsbruck, Austria January13- 22, 2012.
Approximately 1100 athletes from over 60 countries are expected to compete in the matches. The decision for Innsbruck to host the Games was announced on December 12, 2008 after mail voting by 105 International Olympic Committee (IOC) members.
Iran has been competing in the Winter Olympics since 1956, but never any woman has been sent to participate in the Games, until Marjan Kalhor became the first female Winter Olympian in the history of Iran in 2010.
Training in the Alborz mountain range north of Tehran, Kalhor began skiing at age four. By 16, Kalhor won bronze at a competition in Turkey, and two years later she took home gold in slalom and silver in giant at a Lebanese event.
