Russia and Turkey support diplomatic solutions for Iran

Source: Radio Zamaneh

Russia and Turkey have called for the resumption of nuclear negotiations between the G5+1 and Iran.

Ria Novosti reported on Wednesday that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Turkish counterpart Ahmet Davutoglu held a joint press conference, announcing their support for using "diplomatic means" to resolve the nuclear disputes with Iran.

Lavrov announced: "Both Moscow and Ankara call for resumed nuclear negotiations between Tehran and the G5+1 as soon as possible."

Russia had condemned the expansion of unilateral sanctions against Iran, saying their goal is "regime change in Iran."

Iran and the G5+1 have held a number of meetings to discuss the nuclear issues but none has borne any fruit.

In recent months, the United States and Europe have imposed sanctions on Iran's Central Bank, followed by the EU's approval of a plan to boycott Iranian petroleum products.

The sanctions appear to have thrown Iran's economy into havoc, with the national currency in a free fall and inflation on the rise.
