An Iranian national who pleaded guilty in 2009 to plotting to ship sensitive U.S. military technology to Iran has been deported back to his home country, a spokesman for the U.S. State Department has confirmed.

In this screen grab from surveillance video (released by U.S. Customs Service), Amir Hossein Ardebili, 36, is seen negotiating with undercover U.S. agents during a sting operation in Tbilisi, Georgia.

Amir Hossein Ardebili was deported to Iran last week after he had completed his prison sentence, State Department spokesman Noel Clay said.

Ardebili pleaded guilty in 2009 to charges that included conspiracy, money laundering, smuggling, and arms export control violations.

He was sentenced to five years in prison with credit for time served.

According to court documents, Ardebili had obtained thousands of components, including military aircraft parts, night-vision devices, communications equipment, and Kevlar.
