Iran to send living creature into space by June 2012

The Head of Iranian Space Agency (ISA) said Wednesday the country plans to send living creature into space by next 3 months. Reza Fazeli also added Iran would send Fajr satellite into space late May or early June.

"The project of sending living creature into the space is in a satisfactory level and initial steps for the project were taken," he said adding the project would be probably completed by next 3 months.

He also added Fajr satellite is to be fired into space by "Safir-1" satellite carrier.

Iran launched its first domestically-produced satellite, Omid (hope), into orbit in 2009.

The Omid data-processing satellite was designed to orbit the Earth 15 times every 24 hours and transmit data via two frequency bands and eight antennas to an Iranian space station.

Iran is one of the 24 founding members of the United Nations' Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space, which was set up in 1959.
