Director of the 25th Tehran International Book Fair Bahman Dorri has said that the number of visitors reached over 1.2 million during the past three days of the cultural event.
Despite the rainy days accompanied with thunder and lightning in the afternoons, over 1.2 million people visited the fair since the fair opened on Wednesday; Dorri told the Persian service of ISNA on Saturday.
About 210,000 people visited the fair on the first day, 460,000 on the second and 550,000 on the third, Dorri who also Deputy Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance for Cultural Affairs added.
The number of visitors is usually figured out at the entrance doors via the organizations, the vans and buses, which are active in the fair, Dorri had said.
Moreover, executive director of the fair Hossein Safari also believes that Tehran fair receives the most number of visitors in the world.
Safari said that the huge number of people on Friday surprised the organizers, and that they were forced to extend the hours on this day.
"This warm welcome really needs to be praised. We have made our best efforts to give a good service o the visitors, however there are huge number of people and we have limits of course," he said.
I personally am not totally satisfied with the entire situation but then again we are trying to make the visitors satisfied, there are several pavilions set up to provide information to the visitors, as well as several locations where people can rest and feel refreshed, he said.
However, according to Mehr News Agency, the vans used for transferring the visitors from the entrance doors to the major halls stopped giving services on Friday due to the high number of people at the entrance.
The decision was made by the executive officials of the fair to prevent a big crowd at the major entrance doors.
Over 50 vans carry the visitors from the entrance doors to the halls, each carrying 10 passengers.
Over 2,400 Iranian publishers and 1600 publishers from 77 countries are offering their products at the fair this year.
The fair will be running until May 12 at Tehran's Imam Khomeini Mosalla.
