The Director of Iranian Genetic and Biologic Reserves National Center Abolhassan Shahzadeh Fazeli said archaea can live in difficult environmental situation including high concentration of salt until saturation, high temperature up to 120 centigrade and highly acidic or alkaline conditions.

These situations widely seen in industrial processes caused that this kind of microorganism and its products be considerable in industrial biotechnology.

They are used in producing compounds such as enzymes, pigments and different drug products.

They are also used in environmental cleanup of toxic metal compounds and oil compounds.

The discovered archaeon is the second national one with the scientific name of Halovenus aranensis which was published in International Journal of Sustainable Economies Management (IJSEM).

The microorganism is kept in the microorganism bank of Iranian national biologic and genetic reserves center.
