Iran's Supreme National Security Council Secretary Saeed Jalili and EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton posed for photographers on Wednesday before the negotiators from Iran and the 5+1 group (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany) started high profile nuclear talks in Baghdad.
Iranian officials must follow the Islamic code forbidding men and women to come in contact. This sometimes creates odd situations during official encounters when handshakes are normally exchanged.
The Iranian negotiating team is comprised of Supreme National Security Council Secretary Saeed Jalili, his deputy Ali Baqeri, and Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi.
The six major powers are represented by deputy or assistant foreign ministers who are led by EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton.
Negotiations started later than the scheduled time as heavy dust storm made it difficult for planes to land at Baghdad airport.
