Chancellor of Tehran Medical Sciences University Bagher Larijani said Wednesday that the university signed a cooperation agreement on prevention and curbing diabetes with a complex procedure of treating the disease in the EU.

Talking to IRNA on the sidelines of a seminar on diabetes, he added that based on the deal research and educational activities will increase within the next five years.

As of the next year, awards will also be presented to the top activists involved in the treatment, prevention and public relations works to curb the disease.

International researches indicate that the number of those suffering from diabetes will increase to 552 million in 2030 from 366 million in 2011.

Iran is one the countries with the highest number of people with diabetes.
