TEHRAN - Uzbekistan stunned host Iran in a 2014 World Cup qualifier on
Wednesday. The Iranian national football team lost 1-0 to the Uzbeks in front of
40,000 home fans at Tehran's Azadi Stadium.

Iranian football team
Ulugbek Bakaev scored the only goal of the match in the 71st
minute with an assist by Server Djeparov.
The referee disallowed Iranian midfielder Mohammad Noori's goal in the 12th
minute of the match due to an offside violation. Uzbekistan is now on top of
Group A with 8 points, South Korea is second with 7 and a game in hand, and Iran
is in third due to goal differential with 7 points.

Earlier on Wednesday, Qatar beat Lebanon 1-0 in the other match of the group
at the Al Sadd Stadium in Doha. A long-range strike from Uruguayan-born striker
Sebastian Suria in the 75th minute gave Qatar their first home win in Group A of
the final Asian qualifying round, to leave them on seven points from five
matches.
It was Qatar's second 1-0 win over Lebanon, which were ranked a lowly 146th by
FIFA last year, in the campaign, with Soria also scoring the only goal when the
two teams met in Beirut in June.
The top two teams of the group will clinch a place in the 2014 World Cup finals
in Brazil.
