Tolerance and Culture of Human Rights

Source: 12Petals Media Group

"Tolerance recognizes the universal human rights and fundamental freedoms of others."

Social responsibility is a concept that is dedicated to the promotion of building up shared values. For the culture of human rights to be genuinely cultivated, special emphasis needs to be placed on such universally shared values as freedom, tolerance, and non-violence.

We are witnessing an increase in global quest for tolerance. However, the desire for tolerance and its broad-based cultivation demand serious commitment. Tolerance needs to be perceived as a social responsibility. This responsibility can contribute to the human rights platform as a foundation for peace, stability, democracy, social justice, and sustainable development everywhere.

To that end, here are a few words of universal wisdom:

Tolerance and Human Rights

"... tolerance is neither indulgence nor indifference. ...Tolerance recognizes the universal human rights and fundamental freedoms of others." ~ UNESCO ~

Tolerance and Culture of Human Rights
"Laws alone can not secure freedom of expression; in order that every man present his views without penalty there must be spirit of tolerance in the entire population."
~ Albert Einstein ~

Tolerance and Celebrating Diversity

"It is not our differences that divide us. It is our inability to recognize, accept, and celebrate those differences."
~ Audre Lorde, American Poet ~

Tolerance and Countering Intolerance

Neither our thoughts nor our doctrines nor our minds' forces,
Neither our choices nor our words nor our deeds,
Neither our consciences nor our souls agree.
~ Zoroaster, Persian Philosopher ~
