Iranian firm to manufacture 2.5MW wind turbines

Source: Tehran Times

Iran's MAPNA Generator Company will manufacture 2.5MW generators through indigenizing related technology by the next 1.5 years, IRNA quoted the company's deputy managing director Hamid Amini as saying on Sunday.

The wind turbines will be manufactured based on the world's latest technology, he added.

The company plans to manufacture 9 wind turbines, he noted.

Currently, Iran has the capacity to generate 10,000MW of electricity using wind turbines.

Iranian Energy Minister Majid Namjou says the Islamic Republic will increase the capacity of electricity generation to over 70,000 megawatts this year.

Iran ranks the first in the Middle East in terms of electricity generation and is the 15th largest electricity producer in the world.

Iran exports electricity to Azerbaijan, Armenia, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey, Iraq, and Afghanistan.

The country seeks to become a major regional exporter of electricity and has attracted more than $1.1 billion in investments for the construction of three new power plants.
