During the meeting, Aliyev said, "The visit of the Iranian president to Baku is a message to all those who are trying to undermine the brotherly ties between the two countries."
Aliyev added, "No two countries can be found in history" that have had such a close relationship as Iran and Azerbaijan.
He said, "We should strengthen this amity more than ever."
For his part, President Ahmadinejad said nothing can cause a rift between the Iranian and Azerbaijani nations.
"The relations between Iran and Azerbaijan are brotherly and very deep, and the enemies' conspiracy and a commotion cannot do the least damage to it," Ahmadinejad noted.
The president added that despite all evil conspiracies by the enemies, Iran and Azerbaijan enjoy brotherly relations and share many affinities.
Ahmadinejad also called for cooperation in energy, electricity and water projects between the two neighboring countries.
"We should identify the existing potential for cooperation between the two countries and activate them in line with the progress and welfare of the two nations," Ahmadinejad stated.
The Iranian president also said the two countries can exchange views on promotion of Islamic culture.
