Deputy Energy Minister Mohammad Behzad announced here on Saturday that Iran's electricity exports have hit five billion dollars since the beginning of the current Iranian calendar year (March 20, 2012).
Behzad made the remarks on the sideline of 12th International Electricity Exhibition (IEE) currently underway in Tehran.
He stressed that the exports of technical and engineering services worth dlrs 4 billion.
Iran has exported some three billion dollars worth of technical and engineering services in the past three years, he said, adding so far some four billion dollars out of the six billion dollars worth of technical and engineering services, anticipated to be exported during the fourth Five-Year Development Plan Bill, has been achieved.
The 12th International Electricity Exhibition opened in Tehran on Friday October 26.
Representatives from several countries including Italy, France, Germany, China, Turkey and South Korea are taking part in the four-day event.
Iran to privatize 44 power plants
Iran will sell shares of forty four power plants, worth 220 trillion rials (about $18 billion) to the private sector, IRNA reported. The power plants have the total generation capacity of 34 gigawatts.
Energy Minister Majid Namjou has said Iran's installed power generation capacity is currently about 67GW. According to him, the Energy Ministry plans to increase the electricity generation capacity by 5GW this calendar year.
