Bay Area Iranian-American Democrats Host Jimmy Panetta

SAN JOSE, CA - August 31, 2012 - Bay Area Iranian-American Democrats (BAIAD) announced today that it will be hosting Jimmy Panetta, an Obama surrogate and son of US Secretary of Defense, at its public event on Sunday, September 16th at FAZ restaurant in Sunnyvale, California beginning at 2:30 PM.

“It is a true honor and privilege to be a part of such a commendable event and have the opportunity to speak with such a motivated and influential group as BAIAD,” said Panetta. He continued: “Due to our presidential candidates’ disparate viewpoints on the consequential issues of equality, economic policy, and national security, I look forward to discussing the stark choice facing our voters in November.”

“With the Republican Party’s extreme positions especially when it comes to the middle-class, women, and immigrant communities, there is so much at stake in this election,” said BAIAD president Mehrdad Moayedzadeh. He continued: “For the Iranian-American community, it would be our loss not to get involved in this election in a meaningful way. Then again, in a democracy it is always your loss when you fail to participate in the political process.” He added: “We are honored that Jimmy Panetta has accepted our invitation to speak to our community about the importance of this election.”

An official surrogate of President Obama’s reelection campaign, Jimmy Panetta is currently Deputy District Attorney in Monterey County and Vice Chair of the Democratic Party in that county. In December 2008, he received a Bronze Star for his service in Afghanistan intelligence mission.

The event will be held on Sunday, September 16th at FAZ restaurant, located at 1108 N. Mathilda Avenue, Sunnyvale, CA 94089 from 2:30-5:00 PM. Doors will open at 2:00 PM. This event is open to public with free admission.

Founded in 2004, Bay Area Iranian-American Democrats (BAIAD) is the first chartered Iranian-American Democratic organization in the history of the San Francisco Bay Area. BAIAD is a chartered Democratic Club and is officially recognized by the Santa Clara County Democratic Party.

BAIAD is a non-religious community-based organization that stands for protecting the rights and interests of Iranian-Americans by encouraging active participation in American democracy and empowering the Iranian-American political voice and influence.
