Mehrdad Karamzadeh of Iran claimed a silver medal in the F42 discus final on Sunday. Karamzadeh finished at second place, managing 44.62m with his final effort.
"I was going to win the gold medal, that's why I am here. I could have won the gold medal but I am not sad. I congratulated Davis as the first person. He is like my son. I have competed in four Paralympics but this is his first Paralympics. I dedicate my medal to all Iranian people who supported me, especially my wife and my sons," the 41-year-old said.
Briton Aled Davies won a gold medal after he threw a European record 46.14m.
Lezheng Wang of China seized the bronze medal with a throw of 42.81m.
Earlier in the competition, Iranian shooter Sareh Javanmardi won the bronze in the women's 10-meter air pistol SH1 event, giving the country its first medal at the London Paralympics. Jalil Bagheri has claimed a gold medal in shot put, Nader Moradi won a gold in powerlifting and Mohsen Kaedi seized a gold medal in javelin throw.
The 2012 London Summer Paralympics opened in on August 29 and runs until September 9. The Paralympic Games is the world's second largest major international multi-sport event, involving athletes with a range of physical challenges.
Iran has sent 79 athletes, competing in 13 events, to the London Paralympics.
