A movie by an Iranian director has won the top prize at the Eighth International Festival of Muslim Cinema in the capital of Russia's Tatarstan Republic, Kazan. "A Cube of Sugar" by director Reza Mirkarimi is about a family and the issues it faces as it prepares for a wedding.

The peace and quiet of the old, lively garden is torn apart when the guests show up. The four daughters of the household and their families have all come to help with the preparations for the engagement party of their youngest sister, Pasandideh. This stay might mean trouble for the brothers-in-law of the family, but the kids cherish every moment. That is all until....

The film also won the prize for best female performance and best cameraman.

The Kazan festival has been held since 2005.

Organizers say that although the festival focuses on Muslim cinema, it is open to films by directors of any faith who promote general human values.

Forty-eight films from 29 countries competed in the festival that opened on September 5 and ended on September 11.
