Through his courageous lyrics, Najafi has become one of the foremost contemporary Iranian musicians around the globe. This May, a politically motivated fatwa delivered by radical Iranian clerics issued his death ruling. United for Iran condemned this fatwa in the strongest possible terms and urged the Iranian government to likewise rebuke the clerical ruling and reform its penal code to remove the death penalty for those labeled “apostates.” Take action by urging Iranian authorities to condemn the fatwa.

Currently residing in Germany, Shahin Najafi carries on his music of protest from where he left off in Iran, using pen and music as a powerful outlet for political and social ideas. United for Iran has also joined the movement of activism thorough song, with this year’s release of the compilation, Azadi: Songs of Freedom for Iran, on the anniversary of the June 2009 uprising.
