Source: ISNA

Iranian students stood at the fifth place of the 24th International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) ranking held in Italy September 23-30.

Iran's team received two gold and two silver medals in the competitions.

The annual IOI competitions supported by UNESCO and IFIP (International Federation for Information Processing) have been held since 1989 and consist of two days computer programming and solving algorithmic problems. Up to 4 students from each participant county compete individually.

The primary goal of the IOI is to stimulate interest in informatics (computing science) and information technology. Another important goal is to bring together exceptionally talented students from various countries and to have them share scientific and cultural experiences.
