Iranian marathon runner, Hossein Fazeli, became third in the over-55-year category of the thirteenth semi-marathon competitions in the Spanish capital of Madrid.
After crossing the finish line, Fazeli waved the flag of the Islamic Republic of Iran and conveyed the message of peace and friendship of the Iranian nation and government to the people of Spain and 21,000 participants of the competition from 65 world countries.
According to the competition results announced, Fazeli managed to run the 21-kilometer distance of the competition in 1 hour and 23 minutes and covered the primary 10-kilometer path in 39 minutes and 19 seconds.
Fazeli also presented the emblems of Iranˈs Cultural Heritage Organization and Iranian Automobile Club to Madrid Marathon Federation.
Two Spanish runners named Carlos Lopez and David Raeed finished first and second respectively. Lopez finished the competition distance seven minutes and 28 seconds earlier and Raeed two minutes and 31 seconds sooner.
The competitions were held in six categories of adolescent, youth, adults, people aged over 35 years and veterans aged between 45-54 years and veterans aged above 55 years.
The semi-marathon distance of the competitions was 21 kilometers and 97 meters and 18,800 people enrolled and a total of 1,800 people also took part in the five-kilometer distance of mini-marathon.
The competitions began from downtown Madrid and the participants were categorized according to their age after reaching the finish line.
