Iran: State of emergency declared in Sistan and Baluchestan after 7.5 quake

State of emergency was declared in the quake-hit region of Sistan and Baluchestan province, Deputy Head of Iranˈs Red Crescent Society in charge of Relief Operations Ahmad Reza Shajiee said on Tuesday.

Speaking to IRNA, he said rescue teams from Kerman, Hormuzgan and South Khorasan have been dispatched to Sistan-Baluchestan province.

Following the huge disaster, Crisis Headquarters was formed in the region to arrange relief operations, he said.

According to the seismography center affiliated to Tehran University Geophysics Institute, the 7.5 quake occurred at 15:14 hours local time ( 1144 hours GMT) with its epicenter being at 81 kilometers from Saravan.

The quake took place at the depth of 18 kilometers, it said.

The quake was epicentered in an area located at 28.04 degrees Northern latitude and 62.03 degrees Eastern longitude.
