What is the visual image that most of us have of Iran? Probably, it's a black-and-white vision of some medieval-looking back alley, with a dark-shrouded woman walking down it. Perhaps there is no other country where propaganda has succeeded in creating such a misleading and impoverished mental portrait.

Thus, when I travelled to Iran in 2012, I was wondering what I would come away with, photographically speaking. I never expected the beauty of the landscapes, the modernity of the towns and cities, the spectacle of the architecture, and the richness and diversity of the Iranian people.

I ended up taking more photos in Iran than in any other country I have visited. The following is a selection of some of my favorites!
