Javid Houtan Kian, a jailed Iranian lawyer, was released on Monday August 19 after three years in prison. The Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) reports that Houtan Kian was released from Tabriz Prison at 10 AM on Monday.

Houtan Kian was the lawyer for Sakineh Ashtiani, the Iranian woman sentenced to stoning on a charge of murder.
Houtan Kian was meeting two German journalists in September of 2010, together with Ashtiani's son, when all four were arrested.
Houtan Kian was accused of promoting adverse publicity for the country and sentenced to jail.
Sakineh Ashtiani's stoning sentence has been suspended.
Jailed journalist gets furlough
Jailed Iranian journalist Ahmad Zeidabadi was given a furlough on Sunday August 18. Kaleme website reports that during Ramadan, several political prisoners were supposed to be given furloughs, but for unknown reasons that did not happen.

Zeidabadi, a prominent figure in the student organization Advar Tahkim Vahdat, has been jailed since June of 2009 in connection with the controversial election of that year.
He has been sentenced to six years in jail and is serving his time in Rejai Shahr Prison.
