Photos by Aria Jafari, ISNA

The provincial city of Isfahan in central Iran is among the Iranian cities that's grappling with suffocating air pollution these days. The pollution has reached dangerously high levels in some Iranian cities, including the capital Tehran, in somce cases causing the closure of offices and schools for days.

In recent years pollution has been a recurring problem for major cities in Iran, and this a major source of health concerns for the residents. Aging, polluting cars are a major contributing factor to the pollution. The authorities have been imposing restrictions on vehicle traffic to reduce pollution, while advising the residents to avoid unnecessary travel.
