On the occasion of anniversary death of prophet Mohammad, in many cities across Iran, a special dish called Ash (Iranian soup) is prepared and distributed among the people, mostly the needy.

Many men and women participate in the preparation and cooking of the Ash. For some people this is to fulfill their pledges, since they had made a pledge to God to do so in return for their wishes coming true.

This year, the city of Shiraz may have broken the record by preparing an Ash which took 63,000 kilogram of supplies!
