219 Iranian MPs have issued an announcement to express their support for the recent statements of their Supreme Leader and to once again remind people that, as Ayatollah Khamenei has stated, any insinuation that Iran's elections are not free is a boon to the country's enemies.

In a statement read in the Iranian Parliament on Sunday January 13, the MPs stressed that, as Ayatollah Khamenei had said, political figures who have been calling for free elections are questioning the health of the country's election procedures and are, therefore, beating on the drums of the country's enemies.

In recent weeks, reformist figures such as the head of Expediency Council, Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani, and former president Mohammad Khatami have echoed the concerns about the elections and stressed that free and open elections could present a way out of the country's current problems.

Last week, Ayatollah Khamenei responded to these statements, saying Iran has had free and open elections ever since the 1979 Revolution and any remarks hinting otherwise must be regarded as the "new code of sedition."

The Islamic Republic establishment refers to the election protests of 2009 as "sedition."
