31st Fajr International Film Festival: International Lineup Unveiled

The 31st Fajr International Film festival has announced list of the selected movies participating in the international competition section of the festival. Some sixteen productions were selected from 383 movies submitted by filmmakers from 71 countries across the world.

The selected movies are from Japan, China, South Korea, Ukraine, Australia, Britain, the United States and several other countries that will be presented at the international section of the event.

The First Grader by Justin Chadwick from the UK, the joint production of Germany and France Calm at Sea directed by Volker Schlondorff and Burned by the Sun directed by Russian filmmaker Nikita Mikhalkov are among the movies programmed to be screened.

Furthermore, Polish cinema including seven feature films and 21 short films will be reviewed at the event during a particular program titled From Gdansk to Tatry.

Supervised by Iran's Ministry of Culture, the annual event is comprised of two competitive sections as well as two non-competitive categories.

This year's festival is also set to host a Non-Aligned Movement meeting on filmmaking and cinema.

Switzerland, Romania, Russia, Macedonia, France, Germany, Chile, Egypt, Japan, Poland, the United States, Croatia, Argentina and Denmark are some of the countries that applied for representing their cinema at the Iranian film event.

Established in 1982, the festival is to host the 16th International Iranian Film Market (IFM) while a large number of reputed Iranian and international film distributors and buyers are slated to flock to the event.

This year's edition of Iran's most important film presentation and competition Fajr International Film Festival is set to take place in the country's capital of Tehran from January 31 to February 10, 2013.
