Iran's national volleyball team has defeated its host Cuba for the second time in the space of a day in Pool B of the 2013 FIVB World League.

The Iranians began the Sunday game in Havana on a high note but it was Cuba which bagged the first set 25-22. The Iranian team, however, went on to stage a comeback in the second set 25-20.
From then on, the Iranian volleyballers never looked back and won the two remaining sets 25-18 and 25-22. Iran's Amir Ghafour was the top scorer of the match with 19 points.
In an earlier close encounter in Havana on Saturday, the Iranian sportsmen also came from behind to stun their Cuban opponents 3-2 (24-26, 19-25, 25-19, 25-22, 16-14).
On June 30, Italy defeated Iran 3-2 in Sassari after Iran won its second victory of the tourney by beating Italy 3-1 in the northern Italian city of Modena.
On June 23, Iranian volleyball players gained their first victory in the 2013 FIVB World League against Serbia.
The Iranian national volleyball squad defeated Serbia 3-2 (25-20, 24-26, 23-25, 25-22, 15-12) in a home match at Azadi Sports Complex in western Tehran.
In addition to Iran and Cuba, Pool B also includes Russia, Italy, Serbia, and Germany. Iran, now 4-4 after eight games, is fifth in the standings with 12 points. Italy leads the group with 19 points from nine games. Iran will host Germany for its final two games of the group stages.
The other two groups competing at the 24th FIVB World League include Pool A (Brazil, Poland, USA, Bulgaria, Argentina and France) and Pool C (Canada, Korea, Finland, the Netherlands, Japan and Portugal).
The Intercontinental Round runs from May 31 until July 14. The Finals will be held in Mar del Plata, Argentina, from July 17-21.
The top two teams from Pools A and B, the winners of Pool C and the host nation will compete in the Finals. As Argentina is in Pool A and is already among the qualified teams, the best two ranked teams of Pool A - outside of Argentina - will be selected.
