Iranian President-elect Hassan Rohani has pledged to work closely with parliament, setting a more conciliatory tone than outgoing President Mahmud Ahmadinejad, who was known for his feuds with lawmakers.

Iranian President-elect Hassan Rohani has vowed to avoid confrontation with parliament.

In a speech on July 14 to lawmakers, Rohani said his administration "will not think of confrontation with parliament, nor will it think of, God forbid, fooling parliament with inaccurate statistics."

During his second term, Ahmadinejad accused parliament speaker Ali Larijani of corruption and abuse of power, and members of his cabinet faced impeachment proceedings.

Larijani accused Ahmadinejad of what he described as a "mafia-like attitude."

Lawmakers have criticized Ahmadinejad for implementing subsidy reforms, which they say have stoked inflation.

Rohani, who won nearly 51 percent of the vote in the June 14 presidential election, will be inaugurated on August 3.
