Iran's presidential office says a helicopter carrying President Mahmud Ahmadinejad has made an emergency landing after an unspecified "accident." The president's website said no one on board was hurt.

After experiencing problems, Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadinejad's helicopter landed safely in the Alborz Mountains

It said the helicopter carrying the president and a number of other officials had an "accident" on June 2, adding that the pilot managed to land the aircraft safely in the Alborz Mountains.

A statement posted on the website said that, after the landing, Ahmadinejad officially opened a road tunnel in a mountainous region of northeast Iran before he "returned to Tehran by car."

It did not give any more details about what happened in the incident.

Ahmadinejad's second term in office ends in August.

Eight approved candidates are standing for president in an election on June 14.
