Hassan Rohani has been elected as the new president of Iran with 18,613,329 or 50.7% of the vote out of the 36,704,156 votes cast. Rohani's closest rival Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf stood far behind with 16.56% of the votes.

A wide range of reformist groups and personalities, including former presidents Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani and Mohammad Khatami, had announced their support for Rohani who is considered a moderate.
The final results of the vote counts are as follows:

Millions of Iranians on Friday cast their votes to choose the country's 11th president as well as their representatives in the city and rural councils. Some 50.5 million Iranians, including more than 1.6 million first-time voters, were eligible to vote in the elections.
