Golestan Presents Mamak Khadem in Concert July 14 at Yoshi's San Francisco

Source: Golestan Community Association

Mamak Khadem, renowned Iranian vocalist, will perform with a full ensemble on July 14 at Yoshi’s.  Golestan Center for Language Immersion and Cultural Education is especially proud to support Mamak Khadem, given the organization's mission is to give back to the community and promote Iranian culture.

Mamak creates powerful and mesmerizing music that on the one hand is traditional, rooted in poetry while also original in its interpretation.  There are very few women vocalists and even fewer that perform music in the Iranian classical tradition. The track “Rapture” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LiQ6ipyuo7Y from her new album “Window to Color” which is based on Sohrab Sepehri’s poetry is a good example of her musical style that that is both rooted in classical Persian music and innovative.

On July 14 at Yoshi’s San Francisco, she will perform from her two solo albums “Window to Color” - which is based on Sepehri’s poertry, and “Jostojoo” - a collection of folkloric and traditional music inspired by her travels through the Middle East. She will also sing songs from Axiom of Choice, her former band and a few old Iranian female greats.

Mamak Khadem was born in Iran and was part of the Children's Choir for National Radio and Television of Iran. Inspired by works of master musicians, she seized every opportunity to further her vocal art, regularly traveling back to Iran to study with some of the finest Persian vocalists and masters. She has appeared throughout the Middle East, the US and Europe and Australia.

Golestan is especially proud to help bring Mamak's music back to the Bay Area on July 14 at Yoshi’s. Tickets can be purchased here: http://sfyoshis2.inticketing.com/events/316724.
