The head of Iran's Atomic Agency says Iran will need "convincing proof" from the International Atomic Energy Agency before it allows IAEA inspectors to visit Parchin Military Base.

Fereydoon Abbasi

Fereydoon Abbasi said on Wednesday March 6 at a press conference: "Parchin has not been the site of any nuclear activities, and if they want to visit this site, they have to provide us with convincing evidence and documents so that we can discuss the matter with our country's military authorities, because they have taken the final decision on this issue."

On Monday March 4, Yukiya Amano, the head of the IAEA, urged Iran to allow his agency's inspectors to visit Parchin.

The IAEA has repeatedly requested access to Parchin Military Base, saying it has been given intelligence indicating that certain nuclear tests might have been carried out there. Iran says, however, that because it is a military base, a visit by foreigners could compromise the country's security.

Fereydoon Abbasi went on to evaluate the latest nuclear talks between Iran and the world powers as positive, saying: "The literature of the West has improved" and he predicted that the next meeting in Almaty will yield even more "positive" outcomes.

Iran and the G5+1 are to meet again in Almaty in April.
