Hossein Tala, the head of the board, announced on Saturday that 600 people in Tehran Province had appealed their disqualification, of whom 312 are now permitted to run in the campaign.

The individual names of these new additions to the list of municipal council candidates have not been released.

The Mehr News Agency reports that Hossein Tala indicates that in Tehran Province, 283 individuals are still disqualified at this point and they have another two days to challenge that decision.

An earlier media report had revealed the widespread disqualification of candidates in the city elections. Among those rejected were prominent current city councillor Masoumeh Ebtekar and the son of moderate cleric Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani, Mohsen Hashemi.

Most of the rejected candidates have reportedly appealed their disqualification, but the outcome of their appeals has not been officially announced yet.

Hossein Tala stated that the result has been relayed to some of the candidates, but the board is not allowed to officially announce them until next week.

The municipal elections will take place on June 14 at the same time as the presidential election.
