FC Seoul of South Korea booked a place in the finals of the Asian Champions League after a 2-2 tie against Iran's Esteghlal on Wednesday gave it a 4-2 aggregate victory. The second-leg of the Asian Champions League semifinal was played at Tehran's Azadi Stadium.
FC Seoul captain Ha Dae-Sung was on target in the 37th minute when he sent a curling ball toward the far post that went over Esteghlal keeper Mehdi Rahmati.
Esteghlal defensive midfielder Jlloyd Samuel equalized the match with a header five minutes into the second half.
Then, left-footed Mohammad Ghazi, who came off the bench, gave Esteghlal a 2-1 lead in the 75th minute.
Esteghlal put the visiting team under pressure afterwards and created some chances, but was unable to find the back of the net.
But then disaster struck when an FC Seoul striker was brought down by Hanif Omranzadeh in the penalty area in the 80th minute, and Kim Jin-Kyu converted the penalty to make it 2-2.
Elsewhere, big-spending Chinese champions Guangzhou Evergrande strolled into the final by defeating Japan's Kashiwa Reysol 4-0 at home to complete an 8-1 aggregate thrashing.
FC Seoul will meet Guangzhou Evergrande in the two legs of the final, which will be held in late October and early November.
