Deputy Head of Iranian Space Agency (ISA) Hamid Fazeli said the country plans to launch a new satellite dubbed 'Zafar 2' (Victory 2) into space in 2014. "The satellite has been built at Iran's Elm-o-Sanaat University and its launch has been postponed to 2014 because it is to be launched by Simorgh satellite carrier," he said.

He further added that Tadbir (expedient) satellite which is to be launched into space soon has been made with new navigation systems. The imaging precision of the remote-sensing satellite is more than the previous one dubbed 'Navid' (promise).

The satellite is scheduled to be put in an orbit 250 km-370 km away from the earth after the required tests which last for 3 months.

Iran sent a monkey into space aboard an indigenous bio-capsule code-named Pishgam (Pioneer) in January 2013.

The country successfully launched its first indigenous data-processing satellite, Omid (Hope), into orbit in 2009.

As part of a plan to develop its space program, Iran also successfully launched its second satellite, dubbed Rassad (Observation), into the earth's orbit in June 2011. Rassad's mission was to take images of the earth and transmit them along with telemetry information to ground stations.
