It is important to finish with a win - coach Nafarzadeh
Happy coach Farhad Nafarzadeh
Ankara, Turkey, September 1, 2013 - Iran managed a 3-1 (19-25, 25-21, 25-18, 25-18) victory over the home team of Turkey in the classification match for the fifth place at the FIVB Volleyball Men's U21 World Championship in Ankara. The winners are happy to have finished the tournament with a win, while the losing side claims they could have done better.
Umit Hizal, coach of Turkey: “Iran played better than us except in the first set. They broke our balance and resistance in the match. We tried everything to win, but it did not work out. We could have finished this championship in a higher position, but this is a world championship and being sixth in the world is still good.”
Baturalp Burak Gungor, captain of Turkey: “After losing in the quarterfinals, it was obvious that we would lose some of our motivation. We were successful in yesterday’s match, but lost this one. We could have finished this championship in a better place.”
Farhad Nafarzadeh, coach of Iran: “This was the hardest match for us in this championship, because it is important to finish tournaments with a win. We won the match after raising our motivation in the beginning of the second set. I am happy that we managed to finish this championship by taking a win. However, I feel bad about playing against Turkey in our last match. They are like our brothers. I would have preferred to play this match against some other team or to face Turkey in the gold medal match. I congratulate their team.”
Javad Hosseinabadi, captain of Iran: “We knew Turkey before; we played with them. It was a difficult match. Every player played very well. We registered one loss and seven wins in this championship and still took the fifth place. We do not feel very happy with this situation. At least, we finished this championship with a win.”
