Photos: Qazvin hosts Pars Bike Trials Cup 2013

Pars Bike Trials Cup 2013 were held in the city of Qazvin in central Iran on September 7-8, with the participation of bikers from France, Spain, Germany, Estonia, China and Iran.

Mountain bike trials, also known as observed trials, is a discipline of mountain biking in which the rider attempts to pass through an obstacle course without setting foot to ground. Derived from motorcycle trials, it originated in Catalonia, Spain and is said to have been invented by the father of Ot Pi, a world champion motorcycle trials rider. Pi's father had wanted his son to learn motorcycle trials by practicing on an ordinary bicycle.

Aurelien Fontenoy, winner of the silver medal in the UCI Trials World Championships 2013, is one of the participants in Pars Bike Trials Cup 2013. Fontenoy has won several medals in the UCI World Cups, World Championships, European Championships and GPs.

Daniel Comas Riera is another great name participating at this race. Comas has won uncountable World titles and wishes to win Pars Trials Cup as his first Middle Eastern experience. 32 year-old Comas, finished 6th in the World Championships in South Africa a few days ago.

Dani's closest rival in 20 inches category is the 19 year-old Rafael Pils from Germany who won the UCI Junior Trials World Championships in 2011. Pils is now ranked 12th in the latest UCI Ranking.

Yet another rider from Germany is Thomas Mrohs who is ranked 66th in the UCI 26 inches Trials ranking. He is so enthusiastic to find out about Iran's Trials community and get in real touch with talented Iranian riders.

22 year-old Mart Martson from Estonia, is another rider in this event who is ranked 83rd in the September UCI ranking after a drastic drop. Martson is accompanied by his fellow rider, Kaarel Urva from the same country.

Finally, Zhao Xuan from China is the only Asian rider in this race. Zhao is known to be a very talented and also strong Trials rider in 20 inches bike. He will be a tough rival for Pils and Comas. Zhao will be accompanied by his coach Liu Guoqing.

Foreign riders in Pars Trials Cup 2013 are listed as follows:

2- Daniel Comas Riera (Spain)- 20"
3- Raphael Pils (Germany)- 20"
4- Thomas Mrohs (Germany)- 26"
5- Mart Martin Martson (Estonia)- 26"
6- Kaarel Urva (Estonia)- 26"
7- Zhao Xuan (China) - 20"


Total prize money of this competition is set to be 5000 USD which will be presented to the top 5 riders in each category.

20 Iranian talented riders will take part in this event and compete with the said world class Trials riders.

Qualifying round of the races (both 20" and 26") is planned to be held on the 7th while the finals will be held on the 8th.

This competition which is the first international Trials event in Asia is a part of development program offered by the ACC Trials Committee chaired by the Secretary General of the Cycling Federation of Iran, Asghar Khaleghi.
