The first UN humanitarian aid team was officially established in Iran following signing an agreement between the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) and Iran.
UN's Valerie Amos and Iranian Deputy FM Abbas Araqchi sign the agreement
"The MoU is about holding strategic ties and long-term cooperation between Iran and the UNOCHA," said Abbas Araqchi, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs.
The agreement was signed following the UN Under-Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Valerie Amos's visit to Iran.
Arqachi also expressed the hope that Iran and the UN could enter strategic talks and directing humanitarian aid not only in Iran but also across the region.
The document signed following Amos's first visit to Iran stresses widening bilateral, strategic and effective ties between Iran and the UN.
It also works on boosting ties on information exchange, providing technical aid and expanding capacity of humanitarian aid organizations in Iran.
Amos arrived in Tehran on Friday where she met with Iranian Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli and some other officials.
