Iran has increased gas bills by 100 rials (about 5 cents) per each cubic meter consumption in a bid to raise funds for implementing gas supply projects across the country.
The National Iranian Gas Company has been authorized to use 16 trillion rials (about $645 million) of the funds to expand gas pipelines and related establishments nationwide, NIGC spokesman Majid Boujarzadeh told the Fars News Agency on Tuesday.
Recently, Iran's energy ministry increased the electricity bills of subscribers from 430 rials (about 0.02 cents) per kilowatt hours to 433 rials.
The ministry has added the sum to electricity bills in order to secure a fund for implementing power supply projects in villages and expand the use of renewable energies.
Just 264 rials of the sum will be deposited to the energy ministry's account, and the rest will be used by the administration to pay cash subsidies to people, Energy Minister Hamid Chitchian has said.
