Iran's "Le Passe" Submitted For Oscar Consideration

Iran has submitted "Le Passe," the latest film from director Asghar Farhadi, for consideration as best foreign language film in the U.S. Oscar Awards. The submission comes despite opposition from conservatives, who say the film is too French.

"Le Passe" tells the story of an Iranian man who returns to France after four years away to sign divorce papers with his French wife.

During the journey, he uncovers a great secret weighing on his wife, her daughters, and her new boyfriend.

The Fars news agency, considered close to conservatives, criticized the decision to submit "Le Passe" -- saying it was filmed in France and made with entirely French financing.

Farhadi won the Oscar for best foreign language film in 2012 for "Une Separation," the story of an Iranian couple wrestling with whether to leave Iran or remain to care for an ailing parent.
