Iran has announced that Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has agreed to pardon or reduce the sentences of 920 prisoners. The move comes as Iran on April 1 marks the 35th anniversary of the founding of the Islamic Republic.

The announcement, reported by the state-run Islamic Republic News Agency, did not indicate whether those pardoned include any of the nearly 900 people the United Nations says are currently jailed in Iran over political activity.
It is the second large-scale pardon approved this year by the supreme leader.
In January, Khamenei pardoned or eased the sentences of 878 people to mark the Prophet Muhammad's birthday.
