Iran does not seek to develop nuclear weapons and unfair sanctions, which are against human rights, will be lifted gradually, President Hassan Rouhani told a gathering of well-wishers in Zahedan, the capital of Sistan and Baluchestan province, on Tuesday.
Rouhani said the world has recognized Iran's right to nuclear energy, including the right to uranium enrichment, and preliminary steps to lift sanctions have been taken.
He went on to say that during the nuclear talks between Iran and major powers "we will prove" that what had been claimed about the nature of Iran's nuclear program were "merely a lie".
He added that Iran will continue to develop nuclear technology.
'Security, economic development are most important issues in Sistan and Baluchestan'
Elsewhere in his remarks, he said that "security" is the most important issue in Sistan and Baluchestan which should be strengthened by the help of people from different religious and ethnic backgrounds.
He said there is no second-rate citizen in Iran and the country is ruled by meritocracy.
According to the Iranian constitutional law, there is no ethnic, religious or gender discrimination in the country, he added.
He expressed delight at seeing Shiite and Sunni officials in the province and also governors from among both women and men.
The president also said apart from the issue of security, economic development of the province is also important.
He stated that actions will be taken by the government to identify and exploit copper, iron, gold, zinc and tin mines in the province.
Rouhani arrived in Zahedan, the capital of Sistan-and-Baluchestan province, earlier on Tuesday. He plans to visit other cities in the province and meet with local officials, scholars and entrepreneurs.
Rouhani praises all who helped release abducted soldiers
In his remarks, Rouhani praised the efforts by all, including Shiite and Sunni clerics, who helped release the abducted border guards.
Five Iranian border guards were abducted by the terrorist Jaish-ul-Adl group about two months ago. Four of them were released in April.
President Rouhani also participated in a meeting focused on expanding investment in Sistan and Baluchestan province
