Iran says the next round of international expert-level talks on the Iranian nuclear program will be held next month in New York City. The official Islamic Republic News Agency quoted senior nuclear negotiator Abbas Araghchi as saying the talks will be held on the sidelines of a May meeting about the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty at the United Nations.

No confirmation from Western states was immediately available.

Earlier this month, representatives of Iran and six world powers held a third round of talks in Vienna aimed at agreeing on a long-term deal to resolve Western concerns that Iran is seeking the capability to develop nuclear weapons.

The West wants Iran to halt activities such as uranium enrichment, while Iran seeks the lifting of international sanctions imposed over its nuclear and missile programs.

An interim six-month agreement, under which Iran agreed to curb some aspects of its nuclear program in exchange for limited sanctions relief, went into effect in January.

The negotiations bring together Iran with Britain, China, France, Germany, Russia, and the United States.
