Photos: Iran, Turkmen, Kazakh presidents attend landmark ceremony to open joint railway

Incheborun, Gorgan, Golestan Prov., Dec 3, IRNA - Iranian, Turkmen and Kazakh Presidents met and conferred in Incheborun railway station on Wednesday in a landmark ceremony to celebrate putting into operation of joint railway networks.

President Hassan Rouhani and his counterparts from Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and from Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev visited a cultural, arts and handicrafts exhibition set up on the sidelines of the ceremony.

The three presidents attended a joint news conference after the ceremony.

Rouhani: Railway inauguration marks historical day for Iran, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan

President Hassan Rouhani said on Wednesday that inauguration of the giant project of railway connecting Iran, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan, marks a historical day for Iran, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan.

He made the remarks in a joint press conference with Turkmen and Kazakh presidents taking part in the inaugural ceremony of the railway networks.

President Rouhani said the project will pave the way for economic development of the three nations and the entire region.

He said operation of the project makes direct and indirect connection of China and the Caspian Sea, the Caspian Sea and the Persian Gulf, and the Mediterranean in the West and Pakistan and India on the East.

'By announcing Incheborun region as a trade and economic zone, we can prepare the ground for investment by the Turkmen and Kazakh governments and presence of the private sectors in the region.'

He said the project marks second link of Iran railway to Central Asia.

'In Sarakhs and Tajan region Iran has railway link to Central Asia and today in east of the Caspian Sea Iran connects with Central Asia.'

In the coming years we will witness connection to the Caucasus region.

'Rasht and Astara and Azarbaijan railways will be operational in the coming years. So, Iran will be connected to Central Asian and the Caucasus from three directions.'

Noting that today, on the south, many railways connect Iran to the Persian Gulf and in the near future to the the Oman Sea. We have taken very important step in terms of infrastructure and hardware to have better economic relations.'

'In tripartite meeting with the Turkmen and Kazakh presidents, we decided to expand our economic relations by forming the joint tripartite committee of the representatives of the three countries and use the railway in the best possible manner.'

He said that the three presidents decided to take active steps towards joint investment in the private and government sectors.

'We are to take steps in terms of software to have better economic relations such as visa issuance and banking, hoping to strengthen ties. We will in the future witness further flourishment of ties. Our ancestors led peaceful co-existence and we share common history and culture.'

President Rouhani said in light of common interests and close ties, our security and stability will be intertwined and we will further witness more calm and welfare of people of the three countries.
